I can never read all the books I want; I can never be all the people I want
and live all the lives I want. I can never train myself in all the skill I want.
And why do I want? I want to live and feel all the shades, tones
and variations of mental and physical experience possible in life.
And I am horribly limited. - Sylvia Plath

Review: Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater

Title/Author: Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater
Number of pages: 392
Series: The Wolves of Mercy Falls #1
How I got itBarnes & Noble
Rating: 3.5/5

Goodreads Summary:

the cold.
Grace has spent years watching the wolves in the woods behind her house. One yellow-eyed wolf—her wolf—watches back. He feels deeply familiar to her, but she doesn't know why.
the heat.
Sam has lived two lives. As a wolf, he keeps the silent company of the girl he loves. And then, for a short time each year, he is human, never daring to talk to Grace...until now.
the shiver.
For Grace and Sam, love has always been kept at a distance. But once it's spoken, it cannot be denied. Sam must fight to stay human—and Grace must fight to keep him—even if it means taking on the scars of the past, the fragility of the present, and the impossibility of the future.

My Review:
I've had this book in my wish list since November 2009 and I finally got it for Christmas this year! From the beautiful cover to the intriguing summary, i was instantly drawn in!

Soooo....Okay I'll admit... this story was slowwww! It was basically just Grace, Sam, Grace & Sam, Grace & Sam, Grace & Sam .... alot of emotions but not much action. The whole time after they mentioned a character i was like... okayyy where did this character go & whats going on with them!?!?!?

BUT once I was about ... 75% through the book, thats when things picked up. That's when characters developed other that Grace & Sam... that's when I couldn't put it down!! The last 25% was a complete 4-4.5 star rating but I had to give it a 3.5 because of how slow the other 75% was.

I'll DEF read the next book, Linger, since of course the book left off on an amazing turn of events! Nice save, Stiefvater! I believe the next book will be a whole lot better because the characters are now fully developed.

  1. Hmm, yes, I have heard this one is a bit slow. Fortunately for me, I have a pretty high tolerance for slow plots compared to most other people so I think I would like to try this one out. If only to get to read the last 25%!
